NOPD Officer Suspended from Force Following Conviction on Firearms Charge
(January 25, 2012)- A New Orleans police officer was immediately suspended from the force today after being convicted of illegally discharging a firearm.
28-year-old Jermaine Lacour was reassigned pending the outcome of a criminal investigation for shooting his gun into the ground in the presence of his former girlfriend and her current boyfriend in December 2010. Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) detectives say Lacour fired the weapon to threaten the couple.
Following that incident, a judge instructed Lacour to stay away from the couple and to stop all communications with them. Despite the ruling, Lacour called the woman several times and also sent her an e-mail. After she reported this to NOPD, detectives notified the District Attorney’s Office, and that office subsequently issued a warrant for Lacour’s arrest. Lacour turned himself in to PIB June 7, 2011.
Lacour has been with the department for more than 4 years.
After disciplinary hearing takes place, the Superintendent will determine if Lacour should be terminated from the police force.
