Police Officer Reassigned
New Orleans, LA –Today, Superintendent of Police Ronal Serpas stated, due to Police Officer Jason Lewis pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals in Criminal District Court; Officer Lewis has been reassigned to administrative desk duties pending the review of the case by the Superintendent of Police.
This guilty plea is a result of Officer Lewis being arrested on April 23, 2010, in regards to leaving his K-9 partner in his police unit, contributing to the death of the K-9.
As a result of his plea, Officer Lewis was given a sixth month suspended sentence, six months inactive probation and ordered to pay restitution.
