Rosedale & Majestic Oaks Subdivision (proximity)

11/21/10 at 9:00am, a shooting occurred at 6002 Chef Menteur Apt. #118. The 21 year old victim is a known marijuana dealer in the apartment complex. Two armed subjects approached the victim in what investigators believe to be a drug related robbery. Gunshots were fired in which the victim sustained a single GSW to the pelvis. Following the shooting the subjects fled and 7th District officers gave chase. One of the men, later identified as 22 year old Wesley Butler was apprehended without further incident.

Barrington Court Subdivision

11/23/10 at 8:30pm, a domestic shooting occurred in the 7100 block of Northgate Drive. Twenty- three (23) year old Keith Joseph was arrested for shooting his ex-girlfriend in the foot. Joseph surrendered to investigators on 11/24/10.

Show times are Sunday – Thursday 6pm-10pm and Friday – Saturday 6pm- 12 midnight. Over 100,000 decretive lights adorn the front of the church which are synchronized to your favorite holiday tunes.

Fear of Crime - Our key Quality of Life Issue

The majority of us including I assume we cannot be taken advantage of and our chances at becoming victims are lessen because we are vigilant and consciously aware of people and our surroundings. With that being the case, we tend to overlook the obvious and focus only on the strange and unusual. People not only need to be safe, but they also need to feel safe. Our heightened awareness is nothing more than fear of crime. The 7th District recognizes that “fear” is a key Quality of Life issue. Often when we speak on QOL issues we tend to think about blighted homes or other tangible domains; however, fear undermines property value, hinders commercial investment and impacts community involvement just as much. How can we accurately measure fear, that’s debatable? If the 7th District focuses on reducing crime through visibility, street lighting improvements (among others things), police-citizen interaction, public confidence and reducing disorder we might have a starting point at reducing fear of crime.

Suspects Wanted in Shooting Death near the 900 Block of Canal Street

New Orleans/>/> - The New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Division is requesting the public’s assistance in locating 18-year-old Shawn Breaux, 18-year-old Russell Lopez, 18-year-old Michael Hales, 19-year-old Jarod Cooley, 18-year-old Glenn Tate and 20-year-old Cursheika Hartford wanted in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Earl Weaver.   The offense occurred on November 26, 2010, shortly before 3:30 A.M., at the intersection of Dauphine/>/> and Canal Streets.

 

According to investigators, Eighth District officers responded to a call of a "male shot" and, upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body.  Emergency medical technicians transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died.

 

During the course of the investigation, Homicide Detective Melanie Dillon positively identified Shawn Breaux, Russell Lopez, Michael Hales, Jarod Cooley, Glenn Tate and Cursheika Hartford as the persons responsible and arrest warrants were secured for Second Degree Murder.

Suspect Wanted for Attempted Sexual Assault

 

 

New Orleans - The New Orleans Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating and identifying a suspect wanted in connection for an attempted sexual assault.  The offense occurred on November 24, 2010, at the intersection of Edinburgh and Hollygrove Streets, at approximately 12:15 A.M.

 

According to investigators, the 24-year-old female victim was walking when she observed an unknown male walking behind her as she crossed the train tracks.  The suspect subsequently approached the victim from the rear and grabbed her at which time he sexually assaulted her.  The suspect fled on foot.       

 

The suspect is described as an African American male, 19-20 years of age, approximately 5’7”-5’9” in height, approximately 145 pounds, slim and brown skin with long braids.   

 

Sex Crimes Detectives are in charge of the investigation and can be reached at 658-5521.

District Officers Receive Fingerprint Training

 

 

New Orleans – Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Scientific Criminal Investigation Division will hold a press conference regarding “Fingerprint Training”.   This event will take place on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 2:30 P.M., at the location of

401 City Park Avenue

, in classrooms 1 and 2. 

 

Upon completion of Fingerprint Training, officers will be equipped with their own fingerprint kits and can immediately begin to recover fingerprints from property crime scenes. 

 

Superintendent Serpas said, “This effort will reduce any delays on processing property crime scenes for the victims, who have already been inconvenienced, and will allow the officer to return to answering calls for service more quickly.”

Murder Investigation

 

 

New Orleans, LA - Members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old local male, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family members.  The offense occurred at approximately 2:45 P.M., in the 1800 block of

Touro Street

.  

 

According to investigators, First District officers responded to a call of a “male shot” and upon their arrival found the victim lying inside of his house with an apparent gunshot wound to the body. Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene where he was pronounced dead.                                                                                                                                                                                       

Currently, investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify of the person(s) involved in this incident, as well as a motive.  Homicide Detective Barret Morton is in charge of the investigation.  Citizens with information that can help solve this crime are asked to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 822-1111, toll-free 1-877-903-STOP (7867). NOPD’S Special Operations Division Task Force Unit arrest

Suspect while conducting Knock and Talk

 

 

New Orleans- In one week’s time the Special Operations Division (S.O.D) Task Force Unit investigated 149 complaints, yielding 8 arrests for 9 Felonies, 16 Misdemeanors and 6 Municipal violations.  Officers conducted 38 vehicle stops and made 3 Traffic arrests.  The unit made 3 Narcotic cases, conducted 19 wanted checks, 109 pedestrian contacts and 1 Knock and Talk arrest. They wrote 28 reports and confiscated 68.55 grams of Marijuana. 

 

“Day after day the New Orleans Police Department receives calls from caring and involved citizens who want their neighborhoods to be free of crime. This is an important part of our partnership with the community and is addressed through hard work and results like these”, said Superintendent of Police Ronal Serpas.

 

                        These results are from November 21, 2010 thru November 27, 2010

 

 

Knock and Talk

 

   The Project Safe Neighborhood Detective conducted ten (10) Knock and Talk checks of convicted felons this past week.  One arrest was made which brings the total to 160 checks and 11 arrests since the Special Operations Division began using Knock and Talk in July, 2010.

 

Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)

 

 

    The Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) Detective conducted a wanted check at 8300 Palmetto with the assistance of Probation and Parole on 11/24/10.  The suspect 21-year-old Sedrick Dorsey was wanted for Probation Violation.  Dorsey was on the Special Operations Division-PSN top 10 list.  Dorsey had a history of gun, drug and auto theft convictions and was wanted for probation violation and drugs.  Dorsey was located at the above residence and was placed under arrest.  Dorsey was also found to be in Possession of Marijuana.  Dorsey was charged with Probation Violation and Possession of Marijuana.

 

 

 

Electronic Monitoring Unit

 

   Detectives of the Electronic Monitoring Unit now monitor 49 juveniles and 43 adults in the Electronic Monitoring Program (EMP).  That brings the Year to Date Total to 92 since the program was turned over to the New Orleans Police Department in October, 2010.

 

Two (2) Juveniles in the program were arrested for violations not related to the Electronic Monitoring Device:

 

     A known Juvenile was arrested for Simple Assault.  The juvenile was involved in a verbal altercation with his sister.  When his father stepped in; the juvenile swung at his father.  The juvenile was arrested and charged in Jefferson Parish where the incident occurred. 

 

     A known Juvenile was arrested in Orleans Parish by NOPD for Aggravated Assault.  The juvenile produced a knife and placed the knife to his step-mother’s throat.  The juvenile was booked for adjudication, however, was not remanded at the time of the incident.   

  

     The PSN Detective conducted a check of a residence with the assistance of Probation and Parole on 11/24/10.  Probation and Parole Agents were conducting a surveillance regarding a subject under their supervision for “Molestation of Juvenile” until March 16, 2015.  The subject; 25-year-old Phillip Lackings was found residing at the location with a woman and her daughter (a juvenile).  This was in direct violation of his probation.  Lackings was charged with Probation Violation. 

 

     Officers conducted a traffic stop at

Franklin Avenue

and

Claiborne Avenue

on 11/22/10.  The driver of the vehicle, 37-year-old Billy Sylvan, immediately exited the vehicle and discarded an unknown object.  Officers recovered the object which turned out to be Marijuana.  Sylvan was charged Possession of Marijuana.

 

    Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver, 23 year-old Donald Pritchett attempted to conceal something as Officers approached the vehicle.  Prichett was ordered out from the vehicle.  Officers located a bag of Marijuana where Prichett was sitting.  Pritchett was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana. 

 

 

     On 11/27/10, Officers observed 18-year-old Phillip Craig walking in the 100 block of

Bourbon St.

with what appeared to be the butt of a gun protruding from underneath his shirt.  Craig was detained and officers discovered a Cobra .380 handgun in Craig’s waistband.  Craig was placed under arrest.  A check of the serial number revealed that the gun was stolen from Assumption Parish.  Craig was charged with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon and Possession of Stolen Property.  Craig was not a convicted felon. 

 

    

      On 11/27/10, Officers observed 21-year-old Lareco Harrison pull out a Taurus .40 caliber handgun in the middle of the crowd on and held it in the air as he posed for a picture in the 400 block of

Bourbon Street

.  Once Harrison observed the officers approaching him on foot, he attempted to flee into a bar.  Harrison was arrested and charged with Illegally Carrying a Weapon.   The gun was not stolen and Harrison was not a convicted felon. 

 

                                                                     

     Since July of 2010, officers investigated approximately 2,885 complaints, executed approximately 15 search warrants, made approximately 363 felony cases, conducted approximately 1,161 vehicle checks, issued approximately 112 citations, made approximately 84 narcotics cases, confiscated approximately 42 guns, 160 Knock and Talks resulting in 11 arrests,  and numerous amounts of illegal substances. The Electronic Monitoring Unit now monitors 49 juveniles and 43 adults since the program was turned over to The New Orleans Police Department in October of 2010.

Suspect Wanted for Sexual Assault

 

 

New Orleans - The New Orleans Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating and identifying a suspect wanted in connection for a sexual assault.  The offense occurred on November 24, 2010, at the intersection of

Crowder Boulevard

and

Haynes Boulevard

, at approximately 4:05 A.M.

 

According to investigators, the 20-year-old female victim was consuming alcohol during the night while on

Bourbon Street

with her girlfriend and the girlfriend’s cousins when she elected to leave the location and got into the vehicle with one of the cousins.   The suspect drove to the intersection where he stopped in front of a residence and sexually assaulted the victim.     

 

The suspect is described as an African American male, approximately 5’9” in height, approximately 200 pounds, heavy set with a small gap in between his teeth and shoulder length dread locks.  The suspect was wearing all black clothing.    

 

The vehicle is described as a Dodge Charger.

In reviewing data, the eighteen (18) reported major U.C.R. crimes, of which fifteen (15) were Property crimes, represent a forty-six (46) percent decrease for the same four day Bayou Classic weekend from 2009.

The 2010 Bayou Classic Deployment Plan was comprehensive, calling for nearly 400 Officers working two 12 hour shifts, with 26 Mounted Officers patrolling the French Quarter, Canal Street and the Central Business District areas; Traffic Officers assigned at key intersections to assist motorists and pedestrians traveling to and from the Superdome; Special Operations Officers assigned to Bourbon Street and French Quarter perimeter coverage; Plainclothes Officers blending in with celebrants; Additional District Officers deployed to argument existing Eighth District Officers in French Quarter, Canal Street, CBD and Superdome corridors.

 

Superintendent Serpas said, “Despite what we believe at this point was an on-going feud between two men from Baton Rouge that resulted in a shooting, the success of this past weekend was contributed to a Bayou Classic Deployment Plan which included increased personnel to ensure high visibility of police in the French Quarter, Canal Street and the Central Business District areas, the high intensity highway lighting systems on Bourbon Street and strategically placed Sky Watch towers along with the cooperation of all attendees to this event.”

New Orleans, LA -The New Orleans Police Department’s Eighth District Investigative Unit has arrested two brothers, 24-year-old Jeremy Cameron and 29-year-old Michael Cameron for aggravated battery, immediately after they were involved in an altercation that resulted in the stabbing of a 26-year-old local man, and a 33-year-old man with a severed ear.  The offense occurred shortly after 3:00 A.M., at a local bar in the 800 block of

South Peters Street

.

 

According to investigators, the victim, Michael and Jeremy Cameron were involved in a physical altercation when Michael Cameron stabbed the 26-year-old male in the head.  As the bar’s bouncer, a 33- year-old male, attempted to break up the fight, Jeremy Cameron bit and severed the bouncer’s ear. Several Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriffs Deputies who were working a paid detail at the bar detained both Jeremy and Michael Cameron until NOPD arrived.  Emergency medical technicians transported both victims’ to a local hospital where the 26-year-old male is listed in critical condition and the bouncer is listed in stable condition.

 

Throughout the course of the investigation, Eighth District Detective Michael Flores placed Jeremy and Michael Cameron under arrest for aggravated by battery.  The suspects were transported to Central Lock-up and booked accordingly.

Missing Juveniles

New Orleans/>, LA/>/> – The New Orleans Police Department’s Second District Investigative Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 14-year-old Corona Webb, 13-year-old Sada Webb, and 2-year-old Love Webb of New Orleans, reported missing since 6:00 P.M., on November 28, 2010.

According to investigators, Corona/>/>, Sada and Love Webb were last seen by their mother, Ms. Jenora Webb, leaving their residence, at 2035 Amelia Street.   Ms. Webb advised that the children left shortly after 6:00 P.M., to walk to the store, and she has not seen or heard from them since.  

 

Attached are photographs of 14-year-old Corona Webb and 2-year-old Love Webb.  A photograph of Sada could not be provided.

Murder Investigation

 

 

New Orleans, LA – Members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 36-year-old local male.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.  The offense occurred at approximately 9:50 A.M., in the 1700 block of

Touro Street

.  

 

According to investigators, First District officers responded to a call of a “male shot” and upon their arrival found the victim lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

 

Emergency Medical Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead. 

   

Currently, investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) involved in this incident, as well as a motive.  Homicide Detective Ryan Aucoin is in charge of the investigation.  Citizens with information that can help solve this crime are asked to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 822-1111, toll-free 1-877-903-STOP(7867). New Orleans/>, LA/>/> – Superintendent Ronal W. Serpas has released uniform crime numbers for this year’s, 2010, Bayou Classic celebration.  The raw data collected represents the period for Thursday, November 25, 2010, through 7:00 A.M., Sunday, November 28, 2010.

 

In reviewing data, the eighteen (18) reported major U.C.R. crimes, of which fifteen (15) were Property crimes, represent a forty-six (46) percent decrease for the same four day Bayou Classic weekend from 2009.

The 2010 Bayou Classic Deployment Plan was comprehensive, calling for nearly 400 Officers working two 12 hour shifts, with 26 Mounted Officers patrolling the French Quarter, Canal Street and the Central Business District areas; Traffic Officers assigned at key intersections to assist motorists and pedestrians traveling to and from the Superdome; Special Operations Officers assigned to Bourbon Street and French Quarter perimeter coverage; Plainclothes Officers blending in with celebrants; Additional District Officers deployed to argument existing Eighth District Officers in French Quarter, Canal Street, CBD and Superdome corridors.

 

Superintendent Serpas said, “Despite what we believe at this point was an on-going feud between two men from Baton Rouge that resulted in an aggravated assault, the success of this past weekend was contributed to a Bayou Classic Deployment Plan which included increased personnel to ensure high visibility of police in the French Quarter, Canal Street and the Central Business District areas, the high intensity highway lighting systems on Bourbon Street and strategically placed Sky Watch towers along with the cooperation of all attendees to this event.”

Missing Person

 

 

New Orleans, LA – The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Shelman Wright of New Orleans, reported missing since Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

 

According to investigators, Shelman Wright was last seen by his sister, Ms. Caslie Tate, in the latter part of this past September.  Ms Tate stated that she has attempted to contact Shelman numerous times but has been unsuccessful and this behavior is uncharacteristic of him.   

 

Shelman Tate is described as a 73-year-old African-American male, approximately 5'7", weighing 185 pounds.

Baton Rouge Dispute Ends in Victim Wounded in New Orleans

 

 

New Orleans, LA -The New Orleans Police Department’s Eighth District Investigative Unit is investigating the apparent shooting of a 23-year-old Baton Rouge man and a 39-year-old New Orleans man.  The offense occurred shortly after 12:00 A.M., in the 500 block of Bourbon Street.

 

According to investigators, a 23-year-old man spotted a man who he previously had an altercation with in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and without provocation, the man brandished a handgun, shot the 23-year-old man in the abdomen also wounding a second victim in the leg.  Emergency medical technicians transported both victims to a local hospital where the 23-year-old man is listed in serious but stable condition and the 39-year-old man is listed in stable condition.

 

Investigators spoke with the victim’s relatives who stated that he was previously involved in an on going confrontation in Baton Rouge where he was subsequently shot.

 

Throughout the course of this investigation, Eighth District Detective Michael Flores was able to develop a detailed description of the suspect.  The suspect is described as an African-American male approximately 17-years-old, 5’5” in height, weighing 120 pounds, dark complexion, very low and even haircut, wearing a blue pull over sweat shirt with a hood and black pants.  This suspect is possibly from the Baton Rouge area.

 

As a result of the New Orleans Bayou Classic coverage, Superintendent Ronal Serpas has increased mounted, bicycle and foot patrols in the French Quarter and downtown area.  The police officers assigned to the New Orleans Bayou Classic Coverage were feet from the shooting and were on the scene within seconds of hearing the gunshots fired.  Officers immediately sealed off the area, processed the scene and eventually allowed patrons back into the block.

Significant arrests during the week of 11/14/10 – 11/20/10

 

Lakeside Oaks Subdivision

11/14/10, 19 year old Cedrick James, 22 year old Dave Briggs and his girlfriend were arrested for armed robbery of a Bell Taxi in the 7800 block of

Bass Street

.  Investigators suspect the trio of previous Bell Taxi robberies in the immediate area and are working to connect them.  A search warrant was executed on their residence which resulted in two handguns being seized.             

 

Villa Sites Subdivision

11/14/10, Proactive officers arrested 20 year old Mr. Tramell LaFrance in the 7900 block of Vanderkloot for possession of a concealed MP-25.

 

Majestic Oaks Subdivision      

11/15/10, Narcotics detectives arrested 33 year old Mr. Lenton Vanburen while executing a search warrant in the 4800 block of Majestic Oaks.  Marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a .40 caliber handgun were seized.    

 

Blum Antoine Subdivision/Eastview

11/18/20, Narcotics detectives arrested 19 year old Brian Miskell while executing a search warrant in the 4500 block of

Dodt Street

.  Marijuana and a .38 revolver were seized. 

 

Villa Sites subdivision

11/20/10, a citizen observed 18 year old Eddie Johnson inside of his vehicle in the 7300 block of

Burke Road

.  The owner gave chase to the subject who entered a vehicle and fled to the high-rise.  Johnson’s getaway vehicle broke down and police were able to apprehend him without incident.
