NOPD Violent Criminal Abatement Team has continued Success
New Orleans–The New Orleans Police Department's Violent Criminal Abatement Team shares continued success with the citizens in the community. VCAT has removed an additional violent repeat offender off our city streets. VCAT has arrested 33-year-old Alvin George for possession of heroin. The offense occurred on November 1, 2010, near the intersection of
Lizardi Street and Saint Claude Avenue.
Serpas said, “This arrest is an example of citizen involvement and good police work. These are the variables that must exist in order to continue to remove dangerous repeat offenders off our city streets.”
VCAT received numerous complaints from citizens in the community that there was heavy narcotic trafficking at a said location. Shortly after 10:00 A.M., officers set up surveillance and observed Alvin reach under a house and retrieve an object. When the officers went to stop Alvin, Alvin discarded a small plastic bag to the ground. The officers retrieved the small plastic bag and discovered that the discarded bag was heroin. Alvin was subsequently arrested for possession of heroin.
Alvin has an extensive arrest history. Alvin has (10) felony arrests, (1) felony conviction, (22) misdemeanor arrests, (5) drug violation arrests, (1) theft arrest, (1) battery arrest, (1) illegal weapons arrest and (1) arrest for possession of stolen property. Alvin is currently on probation for possession of crack cocaine until 2011.
