NOPD’S Special Operations Division Task Force Unit Booked

19 Suspects Last Week

 

 

New Orleans- In one week’s time the Special Operations Division (S.O.D) Task Force Unit investigated 154 complaints, yielding 19 arrests for 19 Felonies, 70 Misdemeanors and 1 Municipal violation.  Officers conducted 47 vehicle stops and made 5 Traffic arrests.  The unit made 7 Narcotic cases, conducted 76 wanted checks, and made 128 pedestrian contacts. They wrote 96 reports and confiscated 15.73 grams of Marijuana, 9.0 grams of Crack Cocaine and 1.0 gram of Heroin. 

 

“Day after day the New Orleans Police Department receives calls from caring and involved citizens who want their neighborhoods to be free of crime. This is an important part of our partnership with the community and is addressed through hard work and results like these”, said Superintendent of Police Ronal Serpas.

 

These results are from October 24, 2010 thru October 30, 2010.

 

     On 10/24/10, Officers conducted a traffic stop at

Paris Road
and
Morrison Avenue
.  A name check revealed that one of the passengers in the vehicle 33-year-old Gary Campbell, had two (2) fugitive attachments.  Campbell was placed under arrest.  A search incidental to arrest revealed that he was in possession of Heroin.  Campbell was charged with Possession of Heroin and the Fugitive Attachments.

 

     On 10/24/10, Officers conducted a traffic stop at

Boston Street
and
Bunker Hill Road
.  Officers observed one of the passengers, later identified as 30-year-old Norman Coleman, attempting to stuff something under his seat. Officers ordered Coleman out from the vehicle and retrieved a small plastic bag containing marijuana, from where Coleman was seated. Coleman placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana.

 

     On 10/24/10, Officers conducted a traffic stop at A.P. Tureau and Galvez Streets.  A name check of the driver’s name, 26-year-old Sean McGittigan, revealed that he had an outstanding warrant and he was placed under arrest.  A search incidental to arrest revealed that he was in possession of marijuana.  McGittigan was charged with Possession of Marijuana and traffic violations.

 

        On 10/25/10, 24-year-old Ryan Smith, was wanted by the First District for Attempt Second Degree Murder and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Smith was arrested at

731 Saint Charles Ave.
without incident.

 

        On 10/27/10, 27-year-old Noble Ruffin, was wanted for Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile and Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile by the New Orleans Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit.  Ruffin’s photograph was placed in the newspaper.  Ruffin contacted theViolent Offenders Warrant Squad and surrendered to them.   

 

         On 10/27/10, The Violent Offenders Warrant Squad Unit arrested three (3) suspects who were wanted for Aggravated Battery by the Seventh District. The first, 25-year-old Javonda Jones, was arrested at

730 South Dupre Street
. She met the Officers after hearing that the others had been arrested.  The second, 25-year-old Kolette Singleton, was arrested at
6865 Mayo Street
without incident. Finally, 19-year-old Valencia Washington, was arrested at
1301 North Derbigny Street
without incident.

 

         On 10/27/10, Officers conducted a traffic stop at

Elysian Fields Avenue
and
North Derbigny Street
. When approaching the vehicle, Officers observed 19-year-old Gregory Stewart, in the front passenger seat, attempting to stuff something in his front waistband.  Officers ordered Stewart out of the vehicle and retrieved a bag containing marijuana.  Officers placed Stewart under arrest.  A name check revealed that Stewart also had two (2) fugitive attachments from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Stewart was charged with Possession of Marijuana and the fugitive attachments.  The driver of the vehicle was cited accordingly for the traffic violations. 

 

         In early October, 2010, Officers received information from a confidential informant that 28-year-old Waune O'Connor, was selling marijuana and crack cocaine at the location of 4032 Banks.  Officers immediately began investigating the complaint.  On Thursday, October 28, 2010, members of the Special Operations Division’s Tactical 2 Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 4032 Banks.  The unit recovered about 8 grams of crack cocaine and 2 grams of marijuana.  O'Conner was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana.  Officers additionally arrested 46-year-old Darren Wallace, for Possession of Crack Cocaine and Illegal Possession of a Firearm during a Crime (Ruger P-95 semi-automatic handgun).  

                                                                      

        On 10/28/10, 22-year-old Michael Williams, was wanted for Forcible Rape by the Sex Crimes Unit.  Williams was arrested at

715 South Broad Street
without incident.

 

        On 10/29/10, 17-year-old Robert Steward, was wanted by the Sixth District for Aggravated Battery.  Steward was arrested at

819 South Broad Street
without incident. 

 

 

   

Since July of 2010, officers investigated approximately 2,357 complaints, executed approximately 13 search warrants, made approximately 298 felony cases, conducted approximately 981 vehicle checks, issued approximately 93 citations, made approximately 69 narcotics cases, confiscated approximately 41 guns and numerous amounts of illegal substances.
