Superintendent Serpas Announces Second Citizen’s Police Academy
New Orleans/> –Superintendent Ronal Serpas is pleased to announce that the New Orleans/>’s Police Department’s Crime Prevention Section will host the second Citizen/> Police/> Academy/>/> beginning on January 5, 2010. This academy/training will provide information and knowledge about the the New Orleans Police Department to the citizens of the community.
The purpose of citizen police academy is not to teach members of the community to be police officers; however, it is an opportunity for community members to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of the New Orleans Police Department.
The Citizen Police Academy serves as a component of Superintendent Serpas’ community policing programs. Participants learn about the criminal justice system and how they can work with law enforcement to address community problems.
The Citizen Police Academy can also help develop support for communities and the NOPD. Academy participants usually develop empathy for police and often become active supporters for the police department.
This class will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The class will run for 12 weeks with a graduation on March 30, 2011. There will be no class during the week of Lundi Gras, Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday. The academy class is being moved to 401 City Park.
