Man Arrested After Attempted Murder of New Orleans Police Officers
New Orleans, La.- Superintendent of Police Ronal W. Serpas stated today that at about 12:30 A.M in the 400 block of
Bourbon Street, Eighth District Narcotics Detectives received information from a citizen that an unknown black male was in possession of a handgun. A description was given to the officers.
Undercover Detectives Joe Jefferson, Travis Ward, Alex Brady and Marc Vazquez canvassed
Bourbon Street and spotted the suspect in the 400 block of Bourbon Street. The detectives approached the suspect at which time the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired one shot towards the officers. The Detectives immediately tackled the man in an attempt to secure the weapon as they identified themselves as Police Officers. The suspect attempted to keep possession of the weapon by keeping it underneath him.
Lieutenant Anthony Micheu arrived on the scene and deployed his taser allowing the detectives to secure the suspect and gun without further incident. No one was struck by the gunfire and no officers were injured during the incident. The suspect, 29 year old Brandon Steen was booked with 4 counts of Attempted Murder on Police Officers, Illegal Use and Carrying of A Weapon. Steen was in possession of two (2) identifications, one from Tennessee and one from Florida. A .380 caliber handgun was recovered from the scene.
Superintendent Serpas said “This is a great example of how citizen’s cooperating with officers will make the streets of New Orleans safe.”
