Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder of Two New Orleans Police Officers

New Orleans - Second District Detectives and Jefferson Parish Deputies arrested 27-year-old Herbert Floyd of New Orleans and booked him with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder of two New Orleans Police Officers.  The offense occurred at approximately 9:45 P.M., at the intersection of Fig and Burdette Streets.

Members of the Special Operation’s Division were place in the area of Fig and Burdette Streets because of an increase in armed robberies.  Two undercover officers were assigned to drive a van in the area to look for suspicious activity.  When they drove to the intersection of Fig and Burdette Streets, they were approached from behind by a blue vehicle at which time the driver began flashing the headlights.  The officers continued forward at which time the suspect fired at the van striking the back glass.  The officers returned fire and continued forward.  The blue vehicle continued to follow the officers for a brief period of time and then fled.

Detective conducted a follow up investigation and identified Herbert Floyd as the person responsible for the incident and secured an Arrest Warrant.

Today, Second District Detectives and Jefferson Parish Deputies arrested Floyd in the 700 block of Metairie Road without incident.  Floyd was booked as a Fugitive in Jefferson Parish and transported to Orleans Parish and booked with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

No picture available of the suspect.
