SWAT Roll Ends Peacefully

New Orleans, - Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Special Operations Division peacefully ended a standoff involving 34-year-old Anthony Blackson and his girlfriend.  The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 A.M., in the 2900 block of

Washington Avenue
.

According to investigators, Sixth District officer responded to call of “shots fire” and upon their arrival learned the suspect barricaded himself and his girlfriend inside of his apartment after he fired a handgun.  Officer set up a perimeter and requested the Special Operations Division.

Officers learned the suspect was involved in a verbal argument outside of his apartment complex with neighbors.  During the argument Blackson went inside of his apartment and fired a handgun.

Due to the suspect being barricaded inside of his apartment, the NOPD SWAT team began their negotiations and made contact with Blackson.  After several hours of negotiations, Blackson and his girlfriend exited the apartment and peacefully surrendered to members of the SWAT team.

Blackson and his girlfriend will be questioned to determine their involvement in the incident.
