KENNEROn Friday, January 29, 2010, at 8:49 pm, Kenner Police responded to an armed robbery at Dreams Communications & More located at 3227 Williams Boulevard. Officers learned that the owner was exiting his business when he was approached by three men in the parking lot. One of the men produced a revolver, struck the owner in the head with the revolver, grabbed his backpack, and pushed him into a nearby alley. The owner dropped his backpack, retrieve his weapon, and shot the would-be robber, who died on the scene. The second suspect was shot during the incident and transported to University Hospital for a gunshot wound. The third suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

The owner cashed checks for Hispanic customers, which police believe might have been the motive for the robbery. The two suspects had identification cards from Honduras. Police are not releasing the names of the two suspects until their identities are confirmed.

The second suspect will be charged with armed robbery and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center when he is released from University Hospital. The second suspect may face additional charges after police consult with the District Attorney’s Office.

No charges will be filed against the business owner at this time. The case will be submitted to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.

Detective Joseph McRae is in charge of the investigation.

Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
