FATHER ARRESTED IN ABUSE OF 3 MONTH OLD
On Monday, August 15, 2011, the Kenner Police Department responded to Ochsner Kenner, in reference to a complaint of possible child abuse. There it was learned that Tyler Jonathan Eastgate, 22, of
2850 Idaho Avenue, Kenner, was home alone babysitting his three month old infant son. Eastgate advised police and hospital staff that he went into his son’s room and found him to be in distress (trouble breathing, began seizing, and lost consciousness).
Upon examination and x-rays of the infant child, it was discovered that the victim had bleeding on the brain from two head fractures, bruises to his cheek, chin, and chest area. The victim also had several scratches and bruises to his neck in a hand pattern. Doctors advised the injuries the victim sustained are a result of blunt force trauma as in being violently thrown down.
Eastgate was interviewed by Kenner Police and admitted in a taped statement that out of frustration from the victim’s constant crying, he threw the baby against the wall causing him to strike his head. When the victim didn’t stop crying, Eastgate stuck the victim in the face and threw him into his crib causing him to hit his head a second time. Eastgate further stated that on a separate occasion he accidentally dropped the victim causing him to hit his head on the floor.
Due to the injuries and that the victim will likely have permanent neurological defects from the trauma, Eastgate was charged with the crime of second degree cruelty to a juvenile. Eastgate remains in custody no bond has been set.
Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
Detective LaShonda Woodfork and Officer Brad Boyd are in charge of the investigation.
