Kenner man admits to burglarizing unlocked vehicles in an attempt to look for a gun

Kenner-On Wednesday, July 13, 2011, Kenner Police arrested Roderick Cobb, 17, of

3810 California Avenue
, in Kenner.  Cobb was arrested after Kenner Police officers responded to a suspicious person complaint and located Cobb burglarizing a vehicle.  Cobb was arrested and charged with 3 counts of simple burglary and attempt simple burglary (1-count) for burglaries that occurred in the Greenlawn & Driftwood Subdivisions.  The exact location of the burglaries for which Cobb was arrested are in the 3700 block of Arizona Avenue, the 4000 block of California Avenue, and Trinidad Drive, in Kenner.

Cobb was interviewed and admitted he targeted unlocked vehicles in an attempt to locate a gun.  When asked why he was looking for a gun, Cobb stated “I just wanted one cause of the life style I’m living, I like to smoke weed and stuff.”   Detectives searched Cobb’s home and located additional property inside his home that he advised was taken in other vehicle burglaries in the Greenlawn and Driftwood Subdivisions.  Cobb would enter unlocked vehicles, and ransack the vehicle.  Cobb admitted to taking small things which consisted of money, credit cards, cigarette lighters, glasses, clothes, and other small items.

The investigation is ongoing.  Cobb is responsible for other vehicle burglaries.  Additional charges will to be filed during the investigation.  At the time of this press release Cobb remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning these incidents, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
