Radio mic opens. Numerous rapid-fire gunshots heard on air. Officer yells 108!, 108!... police signal code for officer's life in danger - need emergency assistance.

Gunfire abruptly stops. Officer advises dispatch that he discharged his weapon, that the perp is down, and that EMS is required on a code 3 (highest priority). Dispatcher is also advised that no officers have been shot.

After the melee, it is learned that one officer is injured, apparently struck by a vehicle. EMS is requested.

This appears to have been connected to a carjacking of a 2006 black Chevy Avalanche, which happened just minutes before.

Units advised that they also believe that the perp was wanted by US Marshals, on drug charges.

I wish to commend the on-radio officer directly involved in the shooting, for somehow maintaining his calm and remaining incredibly professional, although in grave danger of great bodily harm or death. Although the strain in his voice was obvious, the officer continued to relay all pertinent information to the dispatcher. After the gunfire abruptly stopped, the officer immediately requested EMS on a code 3 for the perpetrator, who was apparently just trying to kill the officer just seconds before.

In addition, how the dispatcher responded to the emergency was also unbelievably professional. I was amazed how well she remained calm, cool, and collected during the incident, routing officers to the location, processing information, and reminding officers in route to the 108 to slow down, as the officer was ok.

I believe that praise should be given, when praise is due. Listening to the scanner today... their is much praise to be given today considering how well our patrol officers, and HQ dispatcher, responded to this emergency. We are saddened that an officer was injured and needed to go to the hospital, and hope that the officer makes a quick recovery.
