A rare moment on the stump

Even though I don't talk about it much on the blog, I have closely followed the machinations of the Orleans Parish School Board since Hurricane Katrina.  As you may know I co-directed a documentary on the OPSB and school system before and during Katrina called Left Behind.  I made up my mind not to focus on the topic with AZ because I didn't want to get pigeon-holed on the subject and, frankly, I was just burned out on the matter.

I bring it up now because I want to do something I've rarely done on AZ...aver my support for a political candidate.

Here's why....when Woody took over as president of OPSB their finances were in a mess.  Realizing the horrible financial reputation of the OPSB he set out to change that perception and reality.  The way he did that was a little out of the box but after cleaning up the budget, he got Standard and Poor and Moody's to issue OPSB an A+ and triple A bond rating.  That ain't easy.  There's not another public budget in the state that can boast that claim.  Personally, I think it was a brilliant move.

I've met him and discussed some of the issues the board has faced in post-K and I think the guy is pretty amazing.  I actually hope he runs for higher offices in the future.

I'm not getting paid or anything to say this, it's just my opinion and I feel strongly enough to post it.

See...it's not all turd throwing around here.
